Please be advised the CPTPP will be starting up December 30th

Tariff code 33 is to be used if we have a certificate

There is no specific document and it could be on the invoice itself – but the invoice would require the Classification and origin criteria to be a proper document

The rules are very similar to NAFTA – certificate required – direct shipment

Important exceptions – the importer can make up the certificate as well as the exporter or producer – We have 4 years to claim back

Please be advised the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will come into force on December 30th, 2018

This is a Free Trade Agreement between Canada and ten other countries but will initially just be:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • New Zealand
  • And Singapore

The other five nations are:

  • Brunei
  • Chile
  • Malaysia
  • Peru
  • And Vietnam

And will be joined into the agreement at later dates. Vietnam is scheduled for January 14th, 2019

The agreement will either require a certificate like NAFTA or a similar amount of information on the commercial documents

Importations may be immediately duty free or be subject to annual tariff reductions dependant on product.
