CARM Phase 2 Update

CARM Phase 1 officially started in May of 2021 and we have been working diligently with our customers to get them set up online with the new Customs CARM Portal.

The CARM Portal under Phase 1 has some basic functionality, you can go online in real-time and see your transactions, payments, and statements, very much like your online banking account.

CARM Phase 2 of the program has been delayed from June 2022 to January 2023.

Phase 2 will require you to be online with the CARM Portal and authorize a broker to do work for you. Phase 2 will also see a requirement for importers to bond for duty and tax.

This is something we are NOT recommending our clients do at this time.

There are multiple reasons for this:

  • The requirement for bonding has been put off once already and may be again
  • Canada Customs still does not have all their new bonding processes established
  • Canada Customs does not have a direct link between the original legacy bonding systems and the new CARM bonding system

Outlaying funds for a bond at this time is not in your company’s best interest.

We are still looking to get all our customers set up on the CARM Portal, if you have not done so yet please contact us and we would be happy to assist.
